An interesting study titled "histological type lung cancer in asbestos cement workers and matched controls." . Johansson L, Albin M, Jakobsson K, Z Mikoczy - Br J Ind Med 1992, 49:626-630 Here is an excerpt: "Abstract - histological types of lung cancer were examined in the case of a number of workers exposed to asbestos cement dust (n = 29) and matched controls (n = 87). proportion of adenocarcinoma was 31% among exposed cases and 15% among controls (mid-p = 0.05). among workers with high exposure to the share of adenocarcinoma was even higher (45%, 5 / 11 ; mid p = 0.03). proportion of peripheral tumors tend to be higher among exposed subjects than controls (24 V 12%, mid-p = 0.12) Lobe of origin did. do not differ, however, between the exposed and control subjects. therefore, the study shows the correlation between the degree of exposure to asbestos and lung adenocarcinoma, a peripheral rather than central tumor localization, but with almost the same distribution as the lobe of origin in the general population ."
Another interesting study entitled "Work Characteristics of subjects with asbestos-related diseases in the Netherlands" Alex Burdorf, Mohssine Dahhan and Paul Swuste - Oxford Journal of Medicine Annals of work hygiene Volume4 7, No. 6 pp. . 485-492 Here is an excerpt: "Abstract - Results: A total of 710 mesotheliomas and 86 asbestosis cases were available to the average latency period was ~ 40 years and average duration of exposure was 22 years boat building and maintenance .. contribute to the majority of cases (27%), followed by construction (14%), the insulation industry (12%), and Navy and Army, primarily related to construction and maintenance (5%). the insulation industry, the overall risk of mesothelioma was 5 out of 100 workers in the industry ship, one of 100 workers. construction is the overall risk comparable with many other asbestos-using industries (7 per 10 000 workers), but due to its size claimed many mesothelioma cases Conclusion. most of the cases with asbestos-related diseases had experienced their first exposure to asbestos before 1960 for cases with first exposure to asbestos after 1960, progress has been made by the primary asbestos industry. asbestos-using industries such as construction, petroleum refining, and train building and maintenance. Due to the long latency period of asbestos exposure from 1960 to 1980 will cause a large number of mesothelioma cases in the next two decades.
Journal AWWA, Vol. 66 No. 9, September 1974, pages 513-514 range, 2 pages - Kay, GH Here is an excerpt: "Summary: The discovery of asbestos in drinking water in Ontario has led to studies in the amount of asbestos present and its actual effect, if any to those of drinking water. in August 1972, began collecting water samples in 22 cities in Ontario. the test results are submitted to the Ontario Ministry of Environment. the results showed that asbestos in all surface waters of populated areas in Ontario, and probably there is some time, but it is only now being revealed. Ministry of Health has indicated that the present levels of asbestos present no danger to public health ."
We all owe a debt of gratitude to these fine scholars important work. If you find any of these statements of support, read the study in its entirety.
